International Internships and Placements
Internships
The aim of the Work Experience program is to assist people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds by providing an opportunity for them to update their skills and experience and therefore become more employable.
The critical success factors for the Program:
- Provide a variety of age and skill appropriate work experiences for students to explore and test their vocational interests and skills.
- Maintain ongoing professional staff training especially in the vocational and employment arenas to match the professional needs of students.
- Implement teaching strategies to develop and strengthen work skills and worker socialization behaviours.
- Develop proactive relationships with employers and service providers.
Interviews are done through telephone conference calls. The final selection of applicants is made subsequently after following up with references, and then the matching process to placements takes place, interns are put in touch with their overseas host supervisors to begin developing their projects, and applying for necessary visas and other requirements.
The idea is to complete all the necessary formalities, and do the preliminary work necessary to enable the intern to “hit the ground running” on arrival at the placement. Interns must develop a work plan, which must be agreed by the placement supervisor and by the program director, before the intern leaves.
